Ah Toronto, Canada…. I have bestowed it with the name ” The City of Wheels”
Why?
Well lets start with its’ name spelling.. T-O-R-O-N-T-O.. Let’s count it, shall we, THREE ‘O’ s
Why was I bekoned to this lovely city of wheels, well for exploration and the TIFF, naturally, to support some friend’s films. Josh Crook and Manny Perez’s Dominican based film ‘La Soga’ , and Don Argott’s documentary about the movement of the Barnes Foundation ‘The Art of the Steal’ ,which is also screening at NY film festival. Go see it Bastards! BUT, I’m not here to review movies. I’ll save that for another post. I’m here to talk to you about T O r O n t O
First let’s start with all the wheel Chairs! I have nothing against them or anything like that they were just everywhere. I’m talking about full-on motorized wheel chairs, will run you down if they wanted to wheel chairs. I know Canada has great healthcare, but I got the feeling that either the city was either really wheel chair accessible, and a great number of handicapped people that had migrated towards it for that particular reason, Or it was really dangerous. Leaving a generous amount of its’ citizens in wheel chairs from bike accidents, or getting run down by a steam roller, or getting run down by other wheel chairs, OR just plain tripping over something random. Maybe there is some Toronto street gang that takes out people’s knee caps with hockey sticks or something. I don’t know. I wasn’t about to ask them either.
Look at this guy! He was smoking, cruising full force, and definitely had a place to go without patience.
Second this city is all about ’fruit booters’. I’d like to refer to them as ‘roller bladers’ now, for lack of a better term. Seriously, I didn’t know people actually used these things for transportaion. I mean one, they’re fruity, two they’re annoying to carry around, three, I’ve falling wearing them just standing. Hmmm, hence maybe this could be the a result of all those fancy wheel chairs cruising around. I even spotted people hanging poster on blades. They work with these things on!
This guys were actually choosing to CARRY their blades? And what fun it looks! Glee!
Third bikes are everywhere. Which totally rocks! I love riding bikes. And I love this tandem bike riding going on too! Notice the wheel chair?
There was also a lot of baby carriages.
Fourth there are tons of record shops here. Totally awesome! You don’t find too many vinyl shops in many cities, but I spotted at least four. That is why that is the fourth reason Toronto is ‘The City of Wheels’… wheels of the turntable.. keeping the beat going baby. Obviously there’s a strong music scene here too.
Fifth Canada I always noticed, or seems to be, all about roller derby. Girls getting together in kickass outfits with cool hair and whipping each other around turns in order to knock other girls out… Awesome!
And double awesome because the roller skate will never be retired!
And then there was this guy.
I wanted his hair baby so bad! He wasn’t having my drunk ass though. Canada your cheap with pouring liquor!
And then people just lay around everywhere. I guess it’s the relaxed marijuana laws or something
Overall Toronto was awesome! And I’m so grateful for my friends who housed me at ‘The Rex’ hotel and Jazz bar… Totally awesome! Lovin’ the hair SHP. We’d have a not-so-fluffy- but equally awesome hair baby.
Oh and Toronto told me to tell NYC “fuck you our wieners are bigger, better, and grilled”
peace baby….
